Es gibt immer wieder Berichte von halluzinogenen Fischvergiftungen (engl. Ichthyoallyeinotoxism[1]). Die Ursache dieser seltenen Fischvergiftungen ist unbekannt, ihr auftreten ist nicht vorhersagbar.
Die verursachten Halluzinationen sind häufig Horrortrips, dies dürfte allerdings auch durch das entsprechend schlechte Set bei den Vergifteten bedingt sein. In der Zeit nach dem anfänglichen Trip werden häufig intensive Alpträume beschrieben.
Ursachen[]
Die genaue Ursache der halluzinogenen Fischvergiftungen ist unbekannt. Sie scheinen gehäuft in warmen Gewässern (Pazifik, Indischer Ozean, Mittelmeer) aufzutreten.[2]
Bei Sarpa salpa, einem Mittelmeerfisch, traten Vergiftungen besonders im Frühling und Sommer auf. Ein weiterer Risikofaktor soll das Kochen des Fisches mit dem Kopf und das entfernen des Kopfes erst lange nach dem Fang sein. Der Wirkstoff scheint Hitze-stabil zu sein, da er die Zubereitung des Fisches überstanden hat.
Sarpa salpa soll im Römisches Reich gezielt als Rauschmittel konsumiert worden sein.
